Municipal Solid Waste Treatment

Stern Italy represents Italy's breakthrough ArrowBio (patent pending) for the treatment of municipal solid waste.

The growing amount of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is one of the biggest ecological problems of our planet. Landfills, that are the most popular solution, are obsolete. Currently, 49% of EU municipal waste is disposed of in landfills, 18% is incinerated and 33% is recycled or used to create compost.

The European strategy for resolving the waste expected to act at several levels:

1. prevent the production of waste and reduce the danger
2. maximize the reuse of products
3. maximizing recycling
4. recover energy by treating the remaining fraction of waste (by incineration, gasification, anaerobic digestion, etc.)
5. landfills only byproducts of these processes

The ArrowBio process treats mixed waste, allowing you to recover recyclable materials such as ferrous and non ferrous metals, plastics (HDPE and PET film) and glass to produce biogas which is a clean alternative source of energy used for transportation or for the production of electricity or thermal energy, fertilizer and water and thus fully meet the requirements of the European strategy.

The groundbreaking concept of ArrowBio process is the use of water for waste treatment: the idea, which originated prior company experience in the field of wastewater treatment, becomes a problematic element to all other systems treatment, the moisture of the waste, a factor beneficial to the plant.

The most obvious benefits of using water:

• more effective separation that makes it possible to achieve higher percentages of recovered material and compost much cleaner (less contamination) than other processes.
• less dust and odors.
• UASB reactor type may be used for anaerobic digestion, much more effective than those adopted in other systems of anaerobic treatment of waste organic material designed to handle much more dense than the aqueous organic solution treated by ArrowBio that can produce more biogas (with high methane content).

Furthermore, since the waste has a high moisture content, apart from the initial water supply system to start operation, the system does not need to draw water from outside.
